Large Bathroom Cabinets | When repainting plaster surfaces, ceilings or walls which may have already been painted, the top should be thoroughly washed causing all of the cracks should be repaired before new paint is applied. To wash walls properly the job should be done from your baseboard up. Place a handful of washing soda in the pail of tepid to warm water. Using a sponge, wet some of the wall, allowing the river to soak set for a couple of minutes. The addition of just a little paste to the river helps you to hold it to the top.
With a clean sponge and tepid to warm water, proceed to wash the walls down, changing the river frequently. Allow all surfaces to dry thoroughly before painting. New interior trim, doors, window frames, etc., have decided for painting by smoothing all flat surfaces with No. 1 sandpaper. On curved surfaces and corners, No. 1 steel wool is better than sandpaper, given it avoids uneven rubbing. The trim is then well dusted, and many types of knots are coated with orange shellac. If the wood contains much gum or resin, it should be specially treated.
After the shellac has dried well, the first coat of paint should be prepared and applied. When this first coat has dried, fill all holes and cracks with good quality putty, and permit it to dry every day and night. If you are using bathtub paint so that you can paint a vintage bathtub, you should probably get yourself a bathtub replacement as opposed to filling all of the cracks with putty designed for interior walls. The putty might be prepared from paste white lead and whiting, adding enough whiting to produce the putty stiff.
The next operation would be to rub the tone down again with sandpaper and steel wool. Dust the trim again and apply the 2nd and third coats, always remembering the first rule of painting, that is to produce sure that a surface is utterly dry before applying paint. If interior woodwork would be to be repainted, it must first be thoroughly washed with tepid to warm water. When dry, it should be rubbed down with No. 0 sandpaper and steel wool, as directed for brand spanking new wood which has received the first coat of paint.
